The Photographer

Dee Anne Dinelli

Dee is a professional photographer specializing in fine art portraiture and owner of Shadow Dance Photography. Shadow Dance photography started in 2005 in partnership with the late fine-art photographer, Leslie Elias. Dee and Leslie self published a book called In the Company of Dogs, and after her death Dee self published a book called Reverence for Place, a collection of Leslie Elias's landscape photography.

While raising  three children, and working as a special education speech therapist for 38 years, Dee tinkered with 35 mm and medium format photography, setting up a film dark room wherever her family lived.

Dee Anne Dinelli currently serves as Media Director on the Board of Directors for Sierra Roots, a Nevada City, California non-profit organization focused on building community with homeless people.   For the past four years she has been developing an Aquaponics garden, which is the model for use in the future Sierra Roots' sustainable supportive micro-house village for the chronically homeless and very low income members of the Nevada City community.

Dee is especially fond of photographing artists, musicians, poets, playwrights, and actors. She loves to photograph artists at work in their studios and environmental portraits in clients' homes and workspaces.

Edgy and creative work is a particular favorite.

"You have given every human being depicted in your photographs their dignity and beauty. A noble effort and an important point to make to all of us here in America."

~Liberty Blueskyes

"I've never liked to have my photograph taken, and haven't  liked the results, either  - until my session with Dee. She made the experience fun while managing to see right into my soul. I love the results, and how my portrait expresses exactly who I am."

~Susan M. Davis, The Co-Creation Community/CoPassion Project

"Dee Anne Dinelli you were so wonderful to work with! You made it easy and provided me with much needed and beautiful documentation of my work. Thank you!"
